Would anyone care, if they got the address right?

--------------

While busying myself with my dissertation (only a few days to go before hand in), I came across the several hundred news articles published in the US media about the existance of an apparent ‘terrorist’ leader living for the last 20 years on US soil. OK, fine, you get a couple of these stories coming along every once in a while. It’s the daily digest for a nation that’s under the impression that Al-Qaeda lurks on every street corner. No doubt, the Feds in Cali are probably ransacking his grocery shop, hoping to find a terrorist manual hidden amongst some middle eastern vegetables.

So whats the issue? The issue is that former US State Prosecuter John Loftus being interviewed on Fox News decided to give out the address of the individual in question. I mean, that’s just a teeny bit mashed up, innit? How would you like it, if without due process someone accused you of being a terrorist and then broadcasted it to the world. Problem being, that’s PRECISELY what’s happened. The address given out by Loftus was out of date by three years (tells you something about his evidence against the guy). Some poor family in La Habra can’t get to sleep, as wannabe vigilantes threaten and terrorize the family home thinking that it’s inhabited by an Islamic militant. My heart goes out to the family, at least, they may have a small consolation in the fact that some aspiring grafitti artist misspelled terrorist as ‘terrist’.

But what if Loftus got the address right? I mean thats why he gave out the address in the first place. Trying to continue his service to public justice, he had anticipated that many would try to threaten and attack the ‘terrorist’. Scaremongering is what guys like Loftus are best at, and right now there is a big market for him.So its a good thing the plan backfired, because even if the guy got publicly lynched we wouldn’t hear much about it, probably be published as collateral damage. Don’t think its all over, the same thugs that tried it on the wrong address are going to seek retribution for being such plonkers and at least find his grocery shop.

Anyway, you get my point, the value of an Arab Muslim is not the same as that of a White American.

Anyone got Loftus’ home address?

Loftus apologised for his mistake… but only because he had the address wrong - so it’s ok for the general public to harass a man that hasn’t been charged in court.

“I did not realize when I gave his address that Hilal had moved, and an innocent family was living there. I am heartsick that the family suffered harassment and anxiety as a result of my mistake. I take full and complete responsibilty for my error in judgment. I will try very hard to ensure that I make as few mistakes as possible, and again apologize profusely to all of you, especially the Vorick family.”
    John Loftus
