Today Egypt will hold its first Presidential “democratic” election. Although not being perfect, this election has been hailed a landmark in the history of Egyptian politics just like the Iraqi parliamentary elections held in January. This analysis made by the Western media and commentators is somewhat bizarre in comparison to the coverage of the elections held in Iran despite the fact that those held in Iran were fairer. Today, the Guardian noted that “In a report last week, the Washington-based Human Rights Watch concluded that a free and fair contest [in Egypt] is virtually impossible.”
Some commentators have suggested that a huge apathy could be the result of a lack of participation in politics for years. Although this might be valid to some extent, the main reason for apathy will be the fact that no change in either the president elected and the regime policies will be possible through such election. This election is nothing more than a sham orchestrated by the US govt and her agent ruler Mubarak in order to delude the public opinion in the West that democracy is spreading in the Muslim world and thus wars like the one in Iraq are fully justified. Muslims need to understand that in order to take their own political destiny in their own hands through the re-establishment of the Khilafah, they need to uproot the whole corrupted political systems implemented in the Muslim lands and not take part in rigged ludicrous elections organized by the secular capitalists. This is how our beloved Prophet (saw) and the Sahabah worked to establish the first Khilafah in Madina after 13 years of arduous dawa.
