Two men in their 20s have been stabbed to death within three hours of each other and just three miles apart
The first man was attacked in Downsell Road, Leyton, east London, at about 1730 BST on Thursday.
Four people have been arrested in connection with death. About three hours later police were called to St David’s Court in Walthamstow where a man with a fatal stab wound was found.
A police spokesman said the two deaths were not being linked at this stage.
No-one has been arrested in connection with the Walthamstow stabbing.
Formal identifications and post-mortems are due to take place on both bodies later.
This report comes in the shadow of the fatal stabbing of 16 year old Shakilus Townsend and another fatal stabbing that took place earlier this week.
Is it me or is society becoming increasingly powerless to stump out this deadly knife culture trend? Are we at a tipping point before society puts its hands up and concedes and the issue becomes as less important as another social decaying trend that takes the spot light?
I feel sorry for the youth. I remember in my days how being “bushed” or “jacked for a few quid” was the height of youth delinquency. How defining these adolescent delinquencies were, to the extent that one would review their whole lifestyle in context with avoiding being subject to one of these trials.
There were essentially 2 camps; you were either “safe”, or you were “sad” and the consequences of falling in the “sad” camp was to be subject to the aforementioned. It was a defining crossroad. No one wanted to be marginalised by peers. However, once in the “safe” camp you had to always keep your guard up, ensuring that your reputation for being “safe” wasn”t in any way jeopardised.
It”s the law of the jungle once in the “safe” crowd, its all about climbing to the top, to be the most reputable. But if caught in an altercation one had to step up to the mark of face marginalisation by the wider youth community. The altercation, at most, would end up in a bloody nose or black eye, a far cry from what the youth have to step up to today. Its not about being marginalised anymore, its about death.
As I write this blog another news report comes in of another fatal stabbing leading to a 20 yr old student paying his life for what? For looking at someone wrong? for standing up to someone unjust? I have no idea but no doubt the attacker was trying to prove something - preserve his reputation.
It makes you wonder how shallow man can be to commit heinous crimes in the name of reputation. It seems to be a disease that afflicts all peoples of all nationalities and of all ages. The media is always quick to rap individuals from the Asian community, and quite rightly so, for committing violence against their own families in the name of “honour” or ones reputation. So what is the main cause?
I believe the cause is down to one simple question, “What is my purpose”. Its without purpose that results in one failing to identify him/herself with a direction. A vague and meaningless identity is what these youth are falling victim to. Due to societies cultural objectives being aligned to economic and this hedonistic values, its no doubt that these youth are going to identify themselves with that comes hedonistic to them – raw, animalistic, territory marking ideals. Its a crude manifestation of the survival instinct.
Just like the traders in the city, for example, that resort to unethical tactics of “one-upmanship” over their counterparts - through backbiting, lying, deception etc etc the youth of today also resort to the same raw principles to seek ‘one-upmanship’ over their respective counterparts.
Does the above sound controversial or are people seeing what I’m seeing? Anyone up for giving me a few pointers?
